Winter Safety is No Joke!

  • Driving in the winter means changing the way you drive. Snow, sleet, and ice can lead to hazardous road conditions. Your vehicle should be prepared for the winter season. Here are some helpful tips!
  • Be warm and safe this winter!
    • Did you know that heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fire deaths?
    • Keep anything that can burn at least three-feet away from heating equipment.
    • Have a three-foot "kid-free zone" around open fires and space heaters.
    • Have heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected every year by a qualified professional.
    • Turn off space heaters and portable heaters when leaving the room or going to bed. For more heating safety tips click here.
  • Prevent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning! Carbon monoxide detectors save lives! Carbon monoxide detectors should be tested regularly and should be replaced every five years. They should be located mid-wall if possible. Every year, hundreds of people die and thousands of people are treated for carbon monoxide poisoning. The most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion. Here is more information about carbon monoxide poisoning and how to prevent it!
