Information Release – Vehicle Accident
Pagosa Fire Protection District was called to respond to a vehicle accident on Highway 160 near Pike Drive at approx. 3:23 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. The notification was received through the 911 system managed by Archuleta County Combined Dispatch center.
Upon arrival, the first due officer completed a scene size up noting a three-vehicle accident with lane blockage and air bag deployment. The first arriving engine company completed vehicle stabilization and extrication of one patient. Fuel and oil leaks were also mitigated.
On-scene fire apparatus provided emergency responder protection by continuing to block traffic lanes while patients were treated and loaded into ambulances, during law enforcement investigation activities and during the time the disabled vehicles were loaded onto tow trucks. Scene safety is always a high priority on every active roadway. PFPD, along with the other responding agencies, appreciates the patience and understanding shown by motorists during the delay.
PFPD responded with one engine, one rescue truck, two chief vehicles, six paid personnel and one volunteer. Upper San Juan Hospital District, Pagosa Springs Police Department, Archuleta County Sheriff’s Department and Colorado State Patrol units were also on-scene.
PFPD was on scene for approx. 45 minutes.
There are no firefighter injuries to report. The accident is under investigation by law enforcement at this time.
