Pagosa Fire Protection District responded to Hwy 160 East on December 14, 2017 at approx. 10:21 am for a reported vehicle accident. Upon arrival, fire command officers confirmed the accident involved three passenger vehicles which were partially blocking the highway.
Four patients, from two different vehicles, were extricated using fire department technical extrication equipment. A total of five patients, including one infant, were transported by ambulance to local medical facilities for evaluation and treatment.
Due to safety concerns for the patients and responders, the highway was closed to thru traffic for approx. one hour.
PFPD responded with one engine, one rescue truck, three command vehicles, seven paid staff members, and three volunteers.
There were no firefighter injuries to report.
