Information Release – Vehicle Fire
On July 21, 2021, at approx. 3:20 p.m., a call for a vehicle fire on Highway 84, near mile marker 16.5, was received. The notification was received through the 911 system managed by Archuleta County Combined Dispatch center.
Upon arrival, the first due engine completed a scene size up noting a single vehicle, fully involved. The fire had spread to grass and brush next to the roadway. First arriving units established a defensive fire attack utilizing engine hose lines. The vehicle fire was extinguished quickly allowing firefighters to contain the grass fire at less than a quarter acre.
PFPD responded with one engine, two tenders, two chief cars, one fire marshal vehicle, seven paid staff members, and three volunteers.
The single vehicle occupant exited the vehicle before responders were on scene; the occupant reported a small burn injury on their hand which was looked at by ambulance personnel.
There are no firefighter injuries to report and the origin and cause of the fire in under investigation.
