INFORMATION RELEASE – VEHICLE ACCIDENT, Posted on 05/11/2023

Pagosa Fire Protection District was called to respond to a reported trauma incident on Lewis Street near 3rd Street at 3:51 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. The page came through as an auto-response to support local EMS services. The notification was received through the 911 system managed by Archuleta County Combined Dispatch center.


First arriving firefighter, who was already in the area, discovered an adult trapped in between two school busses. The firefighter was able to extricate the individual and initiate CPR. Additional responding units assisted in patient stabilization and packaging into ambulance, along with scene safety and ensuring the safety of bystanders.


PFPD responded with one engine, two chief vehicles, fire marshal vehicle, one volunteer firefighter and eight paid personnel. Upper San Juan Hospital District, Pagosa Springs Police Department and Archuleta County Sheriff’s Department were on-scene.


PFPD was on scene for approx. thirty minutes.


There are no firefighter injuries to report. The accident is under investigation by Pagosa Springs Police Department.
