Information Release –Structure Fire

On April 29, 2022 at approx. 4:29 p.m. a report of a shed on fire was reported in the 400 block of
Franklin Place. The notification was received through the 911 system managed by Archuleta
County Combined Dispatch Center.
Upon arrival, a volunteer firefighter found homeowner working to extinguish the fire which was
still actively burning in a detached shed. A fire extinguisher and water tank were used to slow
the fire activity. First arriving engine pulled 1 ¾ hose line and initiated an exterior attack.
Salvage and overhaul operations were performed after fire was extinguished.
PFPD responded with two engines, three tenders, two chief vehicles, one fire marshal vehicle,
seven paid staff members, and five volunteers. One PSMC ambulance staged on scene to
provide medical care if necessary.
PFPD was on scene for approx. one hour fifteen minutes.
Two civilians and one firefighter were exposed to smoke; they were taken to a local medical
facility to be treated. All three were released. The origin and cause of the fire is under
investigation.
